Through clear and personalized service, we can simplify the process for those U.S. citizens and permanent residents who wish to sponsor their relatives for a green card. At Larson & Lyons, LLC, we are dedicated to helping our clients use the U.S. immigration system to keep their loved ones safely within the United States.

Meeting Your Family’s Needs

The U.S. immigration systems is designed for families, and family-based immigration is the most common means of receiving legal status in the United States. For United States citizens and permanent residents, who wish to sponsor their relatives for permanent residency in the United States, there are two categories of family-based immigrants:

  • Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens: To be considered an immediate relative of a U.S. citizen, you must either be the parent, spouse, or child under 21 years of age. For immediate relatives, there are no government-imposed limits on the number of visas that can be issued each year.
  • Family Preference Immigrants: These visas are reserved for spouses and children or permanent residents and more distant relatives of U.S. citizens, such as children over 21 and siblings. Because the government limits the number of visas issued each year to preference category immigrants, there is a wait for an available visa. At times, the wait for a visa can be several years.

In family-based immigration, mistakes in submitting the required documentation can result in months or years of delay. Although the process can be lengthy, our immigration lawyers work directly with you to ensure your family member can immigrate as quickly as possible.
